The owner of a national shelving supplier contacted us through our website. They wanted help to secure their new commercial unit near the Rayleigh Arterial Road (the A127).
The main entrance of the commercial unit was open and anyone from the street could pop in.
We discussed an access control solution that would lock the door but still allow easy access for staff and regular contractors.
The system had to be easy to use and aesthetically pleasing to keep the outside of the new unit looking nice.
A BESPOKE DOOR ENTRY SOLUTION
SFB Solutions suggested a standalone keypad system with magnetic lock.
The staff can use a proximity card or PIN code access to get in and out. Visitors can call the internal screen and be allowed access if required.
Because the business owner only needed to secure one door during the day, there was no need for a more technical and connected solution.
But we made the customer aware that the installation is for daytime access control ONLY.
Magnetic locks are not designed to keep thieves out when the building is unoccupied. So the door must still be locked properly over night, at weekends or when there are no humans on site.
WHAT ACCESS CONTROL EQUIPMENT?
We chose two standalone systems that don’t need PC based software to run. This keeps the costs down, which is especially important when we are only securing one door
We used the Dahua IP Intercom. These offer great value. They are great quality, reliable and easy to use. And the flush mounting accessory means the front of the building still looks great.
It’s a standalone system BUT it can be added to in future, if required.
We combined this with an ICS external metal keypad. This handles the control of the lock with proximity card or pin code access.
WHAT THE COMMERCIAL UNIT’S OWNER SAID
The owner told us they had spoken to several security companies about securing this unit. But had decided not to proceed with any of them.

After the work was complete, we held a training session for the business owner and his team.

We have now quoted for the installation of a full intruder alarm and CCTV on their commercial storage space.
